Many people have experienced the frustration of a dead battery, and this can be even more problematic when it comes to larger vehicles like semi trucks. Gather Your Materials
Before you begin, you’ll need to make sure you have the right materials on hand. You’ll need a set of jumper cables, another vehicle with a charged battery, and of course, your semi truck with the dead battery.
Position the Vehicles
Once you have your materials, you’ll need to position the vehicles correctly. Park the working vehicle close enough to the semi truck that the jumper cables can reach, but not so close that the vehicles are touching.
Prepare the Jumper Cables
Next, you’ll need to prepare the jumper cables. Make sure the red and black clamps are separated and not touching each other. Then, attach the red clamp to the positive terminal on the working vehicle’s battery.
Attach the Jumper Cables to the Semi Truck
Now it’s time to attach the jumper cables to the semi truck. Begin by connecting the other red clamp to the positive terminal on the dead battery. Then, attach the black clamp to an unpainted metal surface on the semi truck’s engine block. This will act as the ground for the jump.
Start the Working Vehicle

After a few minutes, try starting the semi truck. If it doesn’t start right away, let the working vehicle run for a bit longer and try again. Once the semi truck starts, let it run for a few minutes to build up its own battery power.
Disconnect the Jumper Cables
Finally, it’s time to disconnect the jumper cables. Start by disconnecting the black clamp from the semi truck’s engine block. Then, remove the red clamp from the dead battery, followed by the red clamp from the working vehicle’s battery. Make sure the clamps don’t touch each other during this process.
